The Consecrated Presence: The Role of the Sisters

Our most vital partnership.

At the heart of St. Margaret of Castello’s House lies our most vital partnership: our collaboration with a Catholic Religious Congregation of Women who serve as the primary conduits of daily care, domestic life, and spiritual formation.

This “Consecrated Presence” ensures that our foundation is never reduced to a clinical facility or an impersonal institution. The Sisters infuse our cottages and academies with the radical devotion of the evangelical counsels, ensuring that every resident is cherished in a warm, loving family.

The Three Pillars of The Consecrated Mission

The Sisters are integrated directly into the daily life and operations of the foundation, anchoring our mission through three fundamental roles:

Maternal Presence & Marian Sanctuary

  • The Marian Mantle of Care: Serving as the maternal heartbeat of our residential cottages, the Sisters ensure that every child and adult experiences consistent, unconditional love and a deep sense of physical and emotional safety.
  • Creating a True Home: The Sisters protect our homes from clinical detachment, bureaucratic commodification, and impersonal care—ensuring that every resident is revered in their divine worth, and never reduced to a diagnostic label or clinical subject.

Specialized Education & Catholic Catechesis

  • Tailored Academic Guidance: The Sisters lead and support the foundation’s educational and vocational hubs, providing instruction adapted to diverse cognitive and sensory styles.
  • Accessible Spiritual Formation: Weaving Catholic catechesis into daily life, the Sisters teach the truths of the faith through visual, multi-sensory, and experiential learning that meets each individual’s specialized needs.

Compassionate Advocacy & Companionship

  • Walking the Journey Together: Acting as “eyes for the blind and feet for the lame,” the Sisters accompany residents to therapy sessions, medical appointments, and the chapel, embedding prayer directly into the rhythm of daily care.
  • The Bridge to Clinical Well-Being: Working hand-in-hand with medical specialists and therapists, the Sisters act as primary advocates for each resident’s holistic dignity, ensuring clinical protocols always respect our resident’s autonomy.

The “Margaretian” Rule of Life & Sanctuary

To sustain this profound work of love, the foundation provides an on-site convent and residence for the Sisters, allowing their contemplative life of prayer to fuel our active life of service.

  • The Witness of Consecrated Life: The presence of the habit, the rhythm of communal prayer, and the quiet witness of dedicated vows serve as an enduring, comforting reminder to residents, staff, and visitors that St. Margaret’s is a sacred sanctuary under heavenly patronage.
  • A Beacon of Peace: Their life of prayer anchors the foundation in grace, ensuring that Domus Margaretae remains a true refuge of peace, healing, and enduring joy.
